Ten Best Grunge Songs of the 90s that you should listen

by: EMERSON MANINGO on September 11, 2010 in Music Publishing

Recording wise, the 90′s rock artists are certainly a million times more talented than todays mainstream artists. In the 90′s I grew up listening rock songs particularly grunge music which gives birth also in the 1990′s. I wrote this short guide to bring my taste of rock music to young generations which failed to hear the beauties of the 90′s grunge rock.

This is by no means a perfect lists of ten best grunge songs but these songs changes my perception to music. Aside from defining music as sweet, calm and language of the soul. I came to know that music in general can also be used as an expression of anger, rebellion, fear and suffering which most topics of grunge music are written.

For me, grunge music , if music like the lists below will be released; it will definitely be successful again.

Before I do any rock recording or mixing, I plunged myself with heavy grunge music such as the lists below. This is my top 10 grunge songs in my rock playlists (list not in order of importance):

“Plush” – Stone Temple Pilots

Scott Weiland is my most favorite grunge vocalist and this is my STP favorite song.

“Spoonman” – SoundGarden

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0_zzCLLRvE&ob=av2e

I wish rock music will sound like this again. Teen pop and Justin Bieber music makes me feel so sleepy like baby.

“Man in the Box” – Alice in Chains

I wish I could meet my old friend again whom I always borrow Alice in Chains facelift album. This song rocks!

“Even flow” – Pearl Jam

Eddie Vedder is great both in writing and in vocals. This is quite a good song.

“Bury me” – Smashing Pumpkins

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SELrax_6288

This one is heavy; Billy Corgan is unpredicable; He can write some sweets and some heavy rock.

“Little Things” – Bush

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9fZrMIJLXY

This song is an anti-dote of stress. Full of energy and loudness.

“Comes as you are” – Nirvana

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vabnZ9-ex7o&ob=av2e

I swear I did not have a gun. One of the most memorable grunge lyrics until today.

“We die young” – Alice in Chains

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XtZUWeADM0

A sentimental heavy riff, this song is unique in the sense the its a bit combination of metal and grunge. Thank you Layne Staley and the Alice in Chains!

“Smells like Teens Spirit” – Nirvana

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg&ob=av2e

Dave Grohl angry drums, Kurt cobain angry vocals and Krist hard punching bass. No one will ever disliked this song except if you have a history of pure feminity.

“Freak” – Silverchair

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze1MA6qaOqg&feature=related

This is a very nice song by Silverchair, an Australian grunge band. The beat and the riff was a bit addictive. If you find youself sleepy, listen to this song, crank up the volume to maximum.

This is incredible, I really like the 90′s and thats exactly what I think of best music ever.

  2. Maybe you should have included serve the servants(from In Utero)…that song’s way better than smells like teen spirit…

  3. DannySpelman Says:

I f*** hate when people include SILVERCHAIR!! Where’s L7, Tad, 7 Year Bitch, not even Mudhoney, Screaming Trees or Babes in Toyland made your list yet you include Silverchair – a POST grunge era, grunge wannabe band and Smashing Pumpkins, a group not really classified as grunge.

You’re obviously missing out on some REALLY b**’ grunge music, otherwise you’d include better bands. Just check out who I’ve mentioned above. You can still be saved. :P

  4. Thanks for the suggestion. I do not know some of those bands. Probably the songs were not accessible and played heavily by the radio. But I will take a listen at those songs. Cheers.
