1.) What do you exactly mean by master track? Can you please describe it? If you mean a master track in the mastering stage, the answer is no. You will simply mix it down and hand it over to a mastering engineer to do the mastering job. Or I may misunderstood your question, please clarify.
2.) For recommended dB; is it in mixing or mastering stage? It differs a lot. For mixing, attaining loud volume is NOT a goal but to remove all mud, provide EQ, get clarity to the max, and shape the character of your mix.
Recommended dB for loudness only applies for mastering, the final dB can be somewhere -13dB to -11dB assuming there is no distortion in the wave.
But the mix you send to the mastering engineer should not be too loud, you can target around -3dB maximum peak level.

Hi Danny,<br

2 questions:
1) is it necessary to set up a 'master' track when mixing?
2) what recommended db level would you recommend being a maximum for each track to ensure good mix volume but also leave adequate headroom?
I appreciate any advice you can give.

I am not sure where to post this so here looked like a nice little spot.

2 questions:

1) is it necessary to set up a ‘master’ track when mixing?<br
