Guitar delay and Effects Settings Tutorial: Audio Mixing Part 1
Ever wonder how to apply delay effect pedals to guitars during mixing? Or combined it along with panning, chorus, EQ and reverb? This is a part 1 of the beginner tutorial using Adobe Audition to accomplish a nice guitar sounding delay during mixing. This is done using Adobe audition built-in, plug-ins and all-digital effects (no use of analog effect pedals). This is the raw recorded guitar sound of the solo:
And this is the final guitar sound applied with effects during the mix (credits: excerpt guitar solo from “Sure”, http://www.audiorecording.me/my-works):
The guitar has been applied with the following effects on it:
1.) Dynamic panning (moving left to right sound and vice versa)
2.) Volume leveling (on the each wave and the output mix volume)
3.) Minor EQ
4.) Chorus
5.) Tube distortion
6.) Reverb
7.) Delay
The delay is the most pronounced effect that defines the guitar sound. If you like to know how to produce this type of sound, then follow the steps below:
Step1.) Download the sample wav file here: Guitarsolodelay wav file.
Step2.) Launch Adobe Audition.
Step3.) Go to “Multitrack view” tab. At first, there are still no tracks added to Track 1, Track 2, etc.
Step4.) Click “Track 1” to select track 1. Click here as indicated on yellow arrow:

Step5.) After track 1 is selected, you can now insert the raw guitar audio. Go to Insert – Audio, and then navigate to the location where you have downloaded guitarsolodelay.wav. Select it and then click “open” to add the audio to multitrack.
It will then be added to the multitrack as shown in this screenshot:

Step6.) Clip duplicate track 1 and move it to track 2. To do this, right click on Track 1 audio wave – click “Clip Duplicate” – Select “1” for “Duplicate clip” and “No gaps” under “Spacing”. Click OK.
After doing this, the audio wave will be duplicated on track 1. Then click and hold the duplicated audio wave and drag it to track 2. This is how it looks like after dragging:

There are now two “guitarsolodelay.wav” tracks, which is on Track 1 and Track 2.
Step7.) Repeat the clip duplicate process in Step 6 and drag the duplicated wave to Track 3 and Track 4 respectively. After this process, tracks 1 to track 4 are all using guitarsolodelay.wav. Screenshot:

Step8.) Save the session. Go to File –Save Session. On the Part 2, you will learn how to arrange the tracks in Adobe Audition multitrack.
